Threaded Oil Pan Installation
The V1 kit installs directly into the BMW B48 oil pan.
Installation requires an existing location in the oil pan to be:
Drilled using an 11/16" drill bit
and then:
Tapped to 3/4"-16 thread
Once the oil pan has been correctly drilled and tapped, the dipstick tube simply threads into the newly prepared opening.
This creates a permanent and secure mounting point for the mechanical oil dipstick.
V1 vs V2 B48 Dipstick Kit
STROM offers two different solutions for adding a physical dipstick to a B48 engine.
B48 Dipstick V1
The V1 kit installs directly into the oil pan and requires drilling and tapping. This provides a dedicated dipstick installation while allowing the factory oil-level sensor arrangement to remain separate.
B48 Dipstick V2
The V2 version installs in place of the factory oil-level sensor and bolts directly into the engine without requiring the oil pan to be drilled or tapped.

Important Installation Information
Installation of the V1 kit requires permanent modification of the oil pan.
The mounting location must be accurately drilled with an 11/16" bit and tapped to 3/4"-16 before the dipstick tube can be installed.
Because drilling and tapping the oil pan incorrectly could damage the sump or introduce metal debris into the engine, installation should be carried out carefully by an experienced technician or engine builder.
After installation, verify the dipstick reading against a known and correctly measured quantity of engine oil before relying on it for future oil-level checks.
